Liver Transplant

The Hume-Lee Transplant Center is unsurpassed in providing state-of-the-art care to patients needing a liver transplant — with survival rates at or above the national average. The program began in 1964 and was reinvigorated by H.M. Lee, M.D., in 1984. Since then, more than 2,300 patients have received liver transplants at the VCU Medical Center.

Advanced treatments available at Hume-Lee allow us to successfully evaluate and treat patients who may be denied the option of liver transplantation elsewhere in the country.

"At no point in my transplant journey did I ever feel alone. All of my needs were tended to. I had professionals to help me physically, emotionally, and even someone to help with the financial paperwork. The whole team walked this journey with me."

- Patti D., transplant recipient
