Massey is one of two NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in Virginia – leading and shaping America’s cancer research efforts – with the community at its core. Massey was first awarded NCI designation in 1975, just one year after receiving a planning grant from the NCI to establish a cancer center at VCU. This designation makes us eligible for federal funding, information-sharing and resources reserved for the most elite institutions that demonstrate superior research capabilities. We have retained that prestigious designation ever since and are proud to have been awarded comprehensive status in 2023.

Closing the Gap Summits
Massey’s Closing the Gap Summits promote community-engaged and cancer disparities-relevant research. Community attendees are invited to participate in research discussions on one of the center’s four priority cancers – breast, prostate, lung and gastrointestinal cancers.
