As treatment options broaden, patients can be confident that cutting-edge care, such as prescription and management of biologic agents, will be fully explored and offered when appropriate. Furthermore, as members of an academic community, our physicians have access to specialized diagnostic services and a wide range of subspecialists available for consultation.

Highest standard of dermatology care

All dermatology services at VCU Health have the highest standard of clinical excellence in the region as we carefully follow the compliance standards with The Joint Commission, the credentialing body for U.S. healthcare organizations. In addition, we offer the very highest level certified histology lab onsite for the examination of tissue samples. At VCU Health, we also follow the rigorous guidelines for both the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and certification through Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA). 

Conditions we treat

VCU Health Dermatology provides specialty care for the diagnosis and treatment of the skin, hair, nails and mucous membranes. Because many common skin problems can be managed by a primary care provider, we offer Web-based recommendations for the management of common adult and pediatric skin problems such as acne, eczema, warts, seborrheic keratosis and skin tags.

Insurance participation

We accept most insurance plans as well as self-pay patients. Please be sure to bring your current insurance card and photo identification with you to each visit. If required by your insurance plan, both copayments and referrals will be collected at check-in prior to your appointment.

Self-pay patients are required to pay at the time of service. If you have no health insurance and have limited financial resources, please contact our Financial Counseling Center at (804) 828-0966 to determine eligibility before scheduling a clinic appointment. Once the financial counselors receive all of the required information, it may take six to eight weeks for completion of the process and a decision. Please see our Financial Assistance information.
