An eight-hour course for physicians, nurses, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, therapists, and paramedics. This live, hands-on is designed to provide the "how-to" of emergency care of the burn patient through the first 24 hour critical time period. Following a series of lectures, case studies are presented for group discussions. An opportunity to work with a simulated burn patient to reinforce the assessment, stabilization, and the American Burn Association transfer criteria to a Burn Center will be provided. Testing consists of a written exam and a practical assessment.

Scald Prevention PSA | “Liquid and Steam Burn Like Fire”

It happened in Seconds

Through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, the DC Firefighters Burn Foundation has been able to develop a burn injury awareness program for firefighters nationwide. The course was developed by firefighters, burn surgeons, nurses, and protective garment manufacturers from around the country. The course was not developed to teach fire ground operations or tactics as these vary greatly around the country.

It Happened in Seconds runs approximately 2 hours and is instructed by a firefighter and burn unit professional through a lecture and video presentation.

Fire Prevention Education

In addition, The Evans-Haynes Burn Center also provides education to EMTs, special government forces and rural hospitals. We participate in prevention education for child or adult care facilities and schools. Please contact us for more information about Preventative Education.
