Monoclonal Antibody Therapy COVID-19 Infusion Treatment Center

VCU Health is operating an outpatient infusion center located in Richmond, Virginia at VCU Medical Center. The infusion center administers monoclonal antibody therapies authorized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) under an emergency use authorization (EUA).

Referrals are required and the therapy must be ordered by a VCU Health System credentialed provider.

Inclusion criteria

COVID positive

Outpatients with COVID-19 with mild-to-moderate symptoms < 10 days, without new or worsening oxygen requirement, and at a greater risk for developing more serious symptoms that may require hospitalization, such as:

• BMI > 25
• Chronic kidney disease
• Diabetes
• Immunosuppressive disease and/or medication
• Age > 65 years of age
• Cardiovascular disease, OR hypertension, OR chronic lung disease, OR a number of other chronic medical problems
• Pregnancy

Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP)

Outpatients who meet the following criteria are eligible:

• Adults not fully vaccinated or not expected to mount an adequate immune response to vaccination
• Have been exposed to an individual with COVID-19 consistent with close contact criteria per the CDC
• At high risk of exposure to an individual with COVID-19 because of occurrence of infection in other individuals in the same institutional setting

Exclusion criteria

Patients meeting the below criteria are not currently eligible for this therapy:

• Are hospitalized due to COVID-19
• Require oxygen therapy due to COVID-19
• Require an increase in baseline oxygen flow rate due to COVID-19 in those on chronic oxygen therapy due to an underlying non-COVID condition

VCU Health will accept referrals for COVID-19 Monoclonal Antibody Infusions for COVID-19 positive patients only. A referral form is required in addition to the last office note and a copy of the positive COVID-19 result. The referral form along with the office note and COVID-19 result should be faxed to (804) 806-7515.

I have a few remaining questions and would like to speak to an infectious disease expert or I am unsure that the patient qualifies and would like to refer the patient to another VCU Health System provider to make appropriate therapy decisions.
