Abdominoplasty Tummy Tuck

Abdominoplasty, commonly referred to as a tummy tuck, flattens a protruding abdominal area. Candidates for this procedure are in good physical condition with pockets of fat or loose skin that have not responded well to diet and exercise. The procedure also benefits women with stretched muscle and skin from pregnancy. Although it is not a substitute for weight loss, abdominoplasty does successfully create a flatter abdomen.

During the procedure, the surgeon makes an incision from one hipbone to the other, removes excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen, and tightens the muscles of the abdominal wall. The procedure can be done in combination with liposuction to further contour back, hip and outer thigh areas. A partial abdominoplasty, or mini tummy tuck, is a less-complex procedure ideal for individuals with fat deposits or excess skin below the navel.

Surgery usually takes 2-3 hours under general anesthesia. Recovery time for abdominoplasty is gradual. Scars are concealed by a bathing suit or underwear and improve significantly over time in most cases. Patients who are good candidates for abdominoplasty can expect impressive changes to the abdominal appearance and contour.
