Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering:  A Relationship of Choice

Everyday, there are scores of people working for CMH who don’t get paid. They are the volunteers who serve as the very heart of our hospital, delivering everything from flowers to a vision for our future. Local men and women volunteer thousands of hours each year, providing a range of services to fortify our organization.

At CMH, volunteers fill critical roles as ambassadors. Much of the work that connects CMH with diverse people and groups throughout our community is done by people whose only interest is in keeping our community strong and viable by promoting the positives of a locally-controlled health care organization. In a world of ways, volunteers enhance the quality of care, helping patients and their families, staff, visitors and the entire community.

One group that embodies the concept of selfless service is the CMH Auxiliary. Almost from the very beginning, the Auxiliary has had a positive and powerful impact. The same Auxiliary that was a driving force in the initial fund-raising campaign to build CMH continues to maintain a powerful presence through thousands of hours of service and strong financial support.

More than 30 Auxilians, women and men, work in many different hospital departments and areas, from patient care to running the gift shop to conducting special events. Currently, active members of the CMH Auxiliary have donated 97,500 volunteer hours to CMH. To date, the Auxiliary is one of the largest contributors to CMH having exceeded $1 million dollars in donations to the hospital.

Hospice Volunteers provide many hours of service, helping patients and families cope with the stress of terminal illness and death and helping to enhance the quality of the remaining days of life. The Hospice Volunteers also conduct activities to raise funds to provide hospice service to all in our community, regardless of their ability to pay. There are 8 people who volunteer for our Hospice Program.  If you are interested in becoming a Hospice Volunteer, call (434) 774-2457 and ask to speak to a Volunteer Coordinator.

CMH is governed by a 21-member volunteer Board of Directors, representing all our service areas, who devote many hours of service to keeping our hospital strong, viable, and community owned.

Our 11-member Foundation Board of Directors are volunteers from the community working to increase philanthropic support for CMH to help our hospital continue to meet the health needs of the community.  The CMH Foundation is always looking for volunteers to help with special events and the Annual Giving Program.  If you are interested in volunteering for the CMH Foundation, call (434) 447-0857.
